Recycling allows you to recover a portion of the materials from some crafted items on the anvil. The conditions for recycling are:

• The item must be craftable on the anvil, either with the Forging, Fletching or wizardry skill.
• You must have the appropriate level to be able to craft the item in the first place.
• As for every anvil interaction, you must have a forging hammer or equivalent tool (ice hammer or multitool) equipped.
• Most items yield an average rate of 50% recovered material. Each recovered material will grant you a crafting exp in the respective skill.
• There are exceptions that cannot be recycled (e.g. iron pickaxe).
• There are exeptions with 100% recycling chance, e.g. "disenchanting" an enchanted item down to the base item and some old event statues that can be converted into a pet and back.
• Currently equipped items (e.g. armor) cannot be recycled
